You have to take eye witnesses descriptions with a brain of salt you can't trust them. You can trust what you have seen yourself and they are the important clues. We saw that redjohn wears a ring. We know he is quite tall. We know he is naracistic. We can trust Jane's account of him. He is a show man a show off who has a fondness for Jane. He is in a position of power ...that only leaves one person. Rewatch his scenes and look at his behavior .It makes Perfect sense.
